Experiences

Living History Sites

Learn how people farmed the land, cooked their food, and entertained themselves in the 18th and 19th centuries through interpreters in period clothing. These historical activities and others are presented year-round, Tuesday through Saturday.  

 

Outdoor Activities

Biking

Located in a 800-acre natural area, bicyclists can enjoy the 0.7 mile Nature Trail and Huck’s Defeat Battlefield Trail. Along with history, you’ll discover the geographical diversity of the Carolina Piedmont as you walk or ride through forests, wetland, and prairie, each with its own distinctive plants and wildlife.

Hiking

Located in a 800-acre natural area, the 6 mile Walt Shrader Trails crosses land steeped in local history and tradition. Native Americans, as well as African and European Americans, share the rich cultural heritage of the Carolina Piedmont.

Horseback Riding

Located in a 800-acre natural area, riders can enjoy the 0.7 mile Nature Trail and Huck’s Defeat Battlefield Trail. Along with history, you’ll discover the geographical diversity of the Carolina Piedmont as you walk or ride through forests, wetland, and prairie, each with its own distinctive plants and wildlife. NOTE: Horseback riding is permitted on the third Saturday of every month, only.

Group Tour information

Groups are welcome at all Culture & Heritage Museum sites. Group visits involve 15 or more people and must be scheduled in advance. Groups visiting the Museum of York County receive a discounted admission rate.

  • Guided tours and special programs are available for groups at an additional charge per tour or program; groups requesting special programming must make reservations at least one month in advance.
  • Chaperones pay the regular admission price, which includes any special program fees, if applicable.
  • Memberships cannot be used for or in conjunction with group admission.
