Know Before You Go

Colonel James Williams was originally buried in a hastily dug grave on John B. Mintz's property, on a hill near the intersection of Buffalo Creek and the Broad River, near Blacksburg, South Carolina. In May 1898, his body was secretly exhumed by a group of men, including A. G. Mintz, and later re-interred in front of the Administration building on Limestone Street in Gaffney, South Carolina, marked by a large memorial. At the time, only his bones (excluding the skull) were reburied, with the skull being exhibited by A. G. Mintz. A proposal was made to re-bury the remains in Berkley Park, but this did not occur.
