On this site lie the bodies of three, unknown British soldiers who perished at the Battle of Cowpens, which was fought around 14 miles away from here on January 17, 1781. These three men were brought to this location, what is now Limestone Springs, for medical attention. Unfortunately, the three men succumbed to their wounds and are buried here, the only known location of British burials after the battle. Not buried by other British soldiers, they were interred by the order of Patriot Captain Vardry McBee Sr. and his wife, Hannah Echols, who owned this land.
