Chestnut Neck, occupied by Patriots until October of 1778, was a privateer outpost utilized as a staging point for planning and executing the capture of several British naval vessels.
The area around Chestnut Neck has changed drastically over the past two centuries. Today, a monument stands in a small park as a reminder of the American privateers who bravely attacked British vessels and attempted to hold off the assault on their post in 1778.
