The site of the British surrender to the Americans on October 17, 1777.
After the American victory at Saratoga, British General John Burgoyne formally surrendered his army at Fort Hardy. The major victory for the Americans convinced France, Spain, and the Netherlands that the small, united colonies were poised to defeat the world's most powerful army. The site is now a public park. The visitors center has displays about the surrender of General John Burgoyne following the Battle of Saratoga during the Revolutionary War at this site, the "Field of Grounded Arms."
