Old Stone Fort
The Old Stone Fort was originally built as a Reformed Dutch Church in 1772. During the American Revolutionary War, the church was enclosed by a log stockade in 1777 and attacked by the British in 1780.

The Old Stone Fort in Schoharie, New York, began as a 1772 High Dutch Reformed church, but during the Revolutionary War it was transformed into the Lower Fort, one of three defensive posts guarding the Schoharie Valley. In 1777 a log stockade was built around the stone church, complete with blockhouses and cannons, and local families sheltered inside its walls. On October 17, 1780, the fort came under attack when Sir John Johnson and Mohawk Captain Joseph Brant led approximately 800 Loyalists and Native allies through the valley. The defenders successfully repelled the brief assault, and a cannonball hole from that raid still marks the building today.
