Walnut Grove Plantation

Established in 1767 by the Patriot supporting Moore family. Local militia gathered at Walnut Grove prior to the Battle of Cowpens. Visitors may take guided tours of the house and grounds.

Know Before You Go

Tours will take you through the doctor’s office, kitchen cabin and Rocky Spring Academy where you will learn about the history of the Moore Family, their settlement of the South Carolina Backcountry, the family involvement in the Revolutionary War and everyday life during Colonial times.

You will also be able to visit the dry cellar, blacksmith forge, barn, smokehouse, wheat house, historic gardens, family cemetery and newly updated nature trail. Bring a picnic to enjoy in our covered pavilion.

Guided Tours begin on the hour. Last tour departs at 4 PM

Self-guided access to the grounds is available for $5 per person (Active Military, Children under 3 and SCHA Members are free). Picnics and leashed pets welcome. Does not include access to the manor house, kitchen cabin, or academy.
