Event Description

Please join the United States Mint and Minute Man National Historical Park in celebration of the semiquincentennial dime.

To celebrate the Nation’s Semiquincentennial, the United States Mint is making one-year-only changes to our circulating coinage. The Emerging Liberty Dime is among these special 2026 designs and, for the first time since 1945, returns Liberty to the obverse of the dime.

The design tells a story deeply connected to the history preserved at Minute Man National Historical Park. On the obverse, a determined Liberty faces the tyranny of the British monarchy as the winds of revolution move through her hair. Her Liberty cap, bearing stars and stripes, represents the emerging Nation while recalling imagery from early American coinage. On the reverse, an eagle in flight carries arrows representing the American Revolution and the colonists’ fight for independence, accompanied by the inscription “LIBERTY OVER TYRANNY.”

That story makes the North Bridge a particularly meaningful place to celebrate this coin. On April 19, 1775, colonial militia and minute men gathered here and confronted British forces in one of the opening engagements of the American Revolution. More than 250 years later, the Emerging Liberty Dime evokes the ideals of liberty, resistance to tyranny, and independence that Americans fought to defend on this historic landscape.

As we commemorate our Nation’s 250th anniversary, this milestone offers a powerful opportunity to reflect on our shared past, celebrate our present, and inspire future generations. We believe coins are more than currency—they are enduring symbols of history, civic pride, and national connection
