Park Day @ Pentucket Burial Ground

Event Location

Water St
Haverhill, MA 01830

For 29 years, the American Battlefield Trust’s Park Day event has brought volunteers of all ages to our nation’s historic sites and battlefields, readying them for a new season of tours and tourists. Join forces with volunteers from across the country to help their local parks and historic sites tackle maintenance projects both large and small — from raking leaves and hauling trash to painting signs and building trails. It's a fun and meaningful way to lend a hand, and experience the history of The Liberty Trail.

About This Park Day Event

  • Meeting place: Volunteers will gather at the Pentucket Burial Ground, Haverhill's oldest cemetery. The cemetery is on Water Street, across from the Mike's Sunoco Gas Station, and abouts Eastern Ave. Volunteers will meet between the two main stone pillars of the cemetery entrance at 10:00 AM.
  • Planned Activities: Volunteers will clean gravestones throughout the cemetery. Our organization has already cleaned half of the stones and about 300 remain to be cleaned.
  • History or Educational Activities: There will be a small guided tour discussing gravestone art.
  • Should I bring any tools or supplies? Supplies will be provided. However, it is always helpful to bring a gallon of water and a brush for cleaning.
  • Is there a rain date? In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be moved to May 3rd.
  • Please note: Dress is yard work clothes. We will be kneeling on the ground and clothes may get dirty. Sneakers are recommended.
