The only surviving building associated with the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment, America's first military academy, it served as the headquarters of Henry Knox during the Middlebrook encampment of 1778-1779.
The Jacobus Vanderveer House is currently owned and managed by the Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House. Since the late 1990s, the organization has pledged its support to the maintenance and interpretation of the site.
