Built around 1741 by Adolphus and Nicholas Brower, who settled here and built this homestead along Wappingers Creek. Nicholas and his sons were active Patriots, supplying wheat, corn, and more to Washington's Army and building a shipyard along the creek from which supplies were sent to the Army at West Point.

Constructed by a Loyalist prior to the Revolution, this home saw the likes of officers from both sides of the American Revolution.

In 1775, at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, the American colonists captured this fort from the British and secured sorely needed cannons and heavy ordnance.

Constitution Island was strategically vital during the Revolutionary War. It anchored the earliest American fortifications in the Hudson Highlands and helped secure Patriot control of the Hudson River.
