John Jay Homestead in Katonah, New York, preserves the 1787–1790 retirement home of John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the United States. Jay was one of America's Founding Fathers, having co-authored the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Revolutionary War, and the Federalist Papers, which aided ratification of the U.S. Constitution. The site includes formal gardens, woodland walks, rolling meadows, and a cluster of 19th-century farm buildings, including an 1820s schoolhouse and an 1830s barn.
