Built in 1792 by Revolutionary War officer William Lenoir, Fort Defiance preserves the homestead that rose near the site of an earlier frontier fort and reflects the legacy of one family for nearly two centuries.
The Lenoir family lived in the home from 1792 until 1961, and in 1976 it reopened under the care of Fort Defiance, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the site’s Revolutionary-era legacy.
