General Herkimer Marker near Oriskany, New York. This marker commemorates the shelter provided Nicholas Herkimer during the battle of Oriskany. On August 6, Herkimer's force will be ambushed within miles of Fort Stanwix. In the ensuing battle, Herkimer's force will suffer horrendous casualties, including Herkimer. 

Marker is near Oriskany, New York, in Oneida County. It is on Rome Oriskany Road (New York) State Route 69) 0.4 miles east of Monument Road, on the left when traveling east. This historical marker is part of a walking tour of the Oriskany Battlefield near the Oriskany Battlefield Monument.
