Visit Historic Drayton Hall — Tour the nation’s oldest preserved plantation house in America still open to the public. Explore Drayton Hall's 18th-century architecture, landscapes & the people who lived here.
Built around 1738, Drayton Hall stands as Charleston's premier plantation and the oldest, fully preserved and accurate plantation house available for tours. Unlike other plantations in the area, Drayton Hall has not undergone restoration, maintaining its authentic colonial period charm. While other plantation homes in Charleston were either destroyed or rebuilt in the 20th century, Drayton Hall uniquely survived both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. It is the only plantation house in Charleston that offers a genuine 18th-century experience. Today, Drayton Hall features remarkable museum galleries and exhibits that explore its significant role in Charleston's history, covering both the pre-Civil War and post-Civil War eras.
