This house is named after William Vernon, who was the President of the Eastern Navy Board through the Revolutionary War and was also the founder and second president of the Redwood Library. Rochambeau used the house as a headquarters starting in July 1780. Washington and Lafayette also visited Rochambeau while he stayed at the house.
